Balmoral Golf Club in Northern Ireland has decided to sell its current property for housing development and relocate to a new 149-acre site approximately four miles away.

The relocation is expected to be completed within the next few years, with the new golf course to be crafted by Paul McGinley.

This decision came after an extraordinary general meeting, where a resolution was passed by “an overwhelming majority” of members, following a period of financial uncertainty for the club.

Established 110 years ago, the club will now partner with the Dublin-based Merrion Property Group, according to Irish News. As part of the agreement, Balmoral will leave its 75-acre site and move to a new 18-hole course, designed by former Ryder Cup captain Paul McGinley, which will include a clubhouse.

The struggling club is expected to receive an additional financial boost of approximately £4 million.

During the transition, Balmoral Golf Club will remain at its current location, likely for the next three to five years.

Club captain Michael Ewings expressed his satisfaction, stating: “I am absolutely delighted with the decision made by the membership to secure the future of Balmoral Golf Club for generations to come.

“Balmoral has a proud history and a very loyal membership, and we look forward to an exciting venture on our new and modern facility.”
