The Dunes, Matarangi is on the hunt for an energetic, driven, and passionate Head Chef  to join our team.

The Dunes Restaurant is situated on the beautiful Matarangi sandspit, and this role provides a fantastic opportunity to excel and showcase your skills and passion as an outstanding leader in the New Zealand hospitality industry. 

With a constant stream of tourists, both domestically and internationally, and frequented by locals all year round, The Dunes Restaurant and Bar is always busy. Reporting directly to the General Manager we are looking for someone with passion and drive to continue to push The Dunes forward.

THE ROLE:

As Head Chef you’ll be heavily involved in a hands-on operation in a very busy and fast paced kitchen, leading our team. Experience in a premium and fast paced restaurant is preferred. You will have a true passion for food, fresh local produce & presentation. Maintaining highest quality and consistency is a key factor in the day to day running of our kitchen and team. 

The successful applicant:

  • Will be a proactive leader looking for a hands-on position within a company with an excellent reputation. 
  • Will have previous experience as Head Chef, ideally 3+ years in a similar high end and fast paced restaurant with a high level of consistency and creativity and be able to demonstrate strong career progression over a requisite number of years.
  • Take ownership of the kitchen responsibilities, be passionate about food and above all an excellent team player
  • Must have outstanding organisational and communication skills and be able to seamlessly achieve labour and COG budgets.
  • Will be able to implement and maintain structures, procedures, and systems.
  • Will be familiar with following and implementing smart procurement practices.
  • Extensive knowledge of all the kitchen operations including food hygiene guidelines, rostering, ordering, FCP and Health and Safety.
  • Will have a passion for great food, be experienced in creating a well-balanced menu & food experience for our Guests as well as managing food and wage costs, working within a budget and leading the team around you.
  • Excellent communicator, positive attitude, ability to work with and develop chefs of all levels.
  • Must be willing to work weekends as well as weekdays, we are open 7 days a week during peak summer period and 5 days a week during the year. 
  • Must be willing to relocate to Matarangi.

Eligibility to work in NZ is essential. Should be residing in NZ.
