Kinloch Golf Resort

Businessman John Sax has bold ambitions to turn his Kinloch resort and golf course near Taupō into a premier alpine-style resort, residential estate and service-focused community, BusinessDesk reports.

The property owner estimates the transformation will attract $900 million in investment to the region, with the bulk of that capital coming from section purchasers constructing homes and businesses providing services.

“I’m guessing the total investment [since 2011] is probably in the order of about $100m,” Sax said, according to the NZ Herald.

“By the time we finish, it’s probably going to be in the order of about $900m … a significant boost to the economy in this part of the world.”

Under the phased expansion, Kinloch Manor & Villas will gain fresh amenities including an infinity pool and childcare facilities. The development also encompasses as many as 20 additional luxury villas and a gradual sale of 178 sections under subdivision consent.

The extra 20 villas will be constructed and run under the same arrangement as the current on-site villas, where owners can elect to include their property in the resort’s managed rental pool, using it part of the year while generating income during the remainder.

Sax aims to establish concierge services, including home healthcare, modeled on what he’s testing at Kensington Park at Orewa, one of his previous developments. Property owners who build on the estate will have the option to join the Kinloch service network, including access to the golf course, he said.
