Pupuke Golf Club has been awarded the Club of the Year Award at this year’s National Golf Awards.
Pupuke Golf Club’s committee completed a strategic plan review, taking a long-term operational approach, which provided a strengthened focus on how the club should position itself within the community and market its golfing activities, ultimately creating a golfing “hub” arching across multiple revenue-generating streams.
After the review, Pupuke Golf Club on Auckland’s North Shore became one of the first golf clubs in the Greater Auckland area to take part in a multi-party initiative to enhance green spaces that included Auckland Council and the Department of Conservation (D.O.C. ), with the goal of enhancing the course’s natural setting.
With the help of neighborhood community organizations like the Centennial Park Bush Society, which oversees a nature reserve next to the course, Pupuke Golf Club was able to provide convincing evidence opposing the Auckland Council’s Draft Investment Plan as a result of the success of its project to improve the natural landscaping and protect wildlife.
Pupuke Golf Club has previously been recognized for its effectiveness in recruiting a large number of new players to the sport, notably women. For instance, the club’s female-focused Chip & Sip project began as an eight-week summer twilight program that enrolled 120 players over three-hour time windows at a starting coaching rate of $27.50 per night. Since then, Pupuke’s Chip & Sip program has been improved and will be available.
Targeting school-age golfers as part of its long-term membership funnel, Pupuke Golf Club’s management also instigated a raft of programmes establishing strong relationships with local primary and secondary schools – delivering specific ‘fit for purpose’ age and ability appropriate sessions.
