St-Andrews

A long-awaited golf development near St Andrews has finally received the green light, as local councilors approve plans for a luxury golf complex at the Feddinch Mains site. The project, led by North American firm Alvarez & Marsal Golf, marks a breakthrough after 21 years of stalled development attempts.

The ambitious development will feature:

  • An 18-hole championship golf course
  • A par-three short course
  • A practice range
  • A clubhouse and golfer’s hotel
  • A restaurant
  • Six detached guest cottages
  • A greenkeepers’ service yard
  • A halfway house offering food and beverages

The 100-hectare site, which first received development consent in 2004, has seen multiple failed attempts at development over the years. Now, Alvarez & Marsal Golf’s comprehensive masterplan, submitted through three separate planning applications, has secured unanimous approval from the North East Fife planning committee.

Tyler J Kirsch, managing director of Alvarez and Marsal Golf, expressed enthusiasm about the project: “Following extensive consultation with Fife Council, the local community and other key stakeholders, this approval is a major milestone in regenerating a site that has remained undeveloped for 20 years. We are confident our project will bring lasting benefits to the local community, and we remain committed to ongoing engagement as it progresses.”

The development represents a significant addition to St Andrews’ renowned golfing landscape, with the project finally moving forward after two decades of planning and proposals.
