World second-ranked golfer Rory McIlroy has committed to play in the 2025 Australian Open at Royal Melbourne beginning December 4, followed by an appearance at Kingston Heath in 2026. This significant achievement marks the tournament’s return to a traditional format, separating the men’s and women’s competitions after three years of holding them simultaneously at the same venue.

Golf Australia’s chief executive confirmed on Wednesday that negotiations were already underway prior to the golfer’s recent Masters victory. The executive acknowledged some concern that the player’s Masters win might generate competing offers worldwide or change financial considerations.

However, these worries proved unfounded as the golfer honored his commitment. The player has long expressed genuine interest in competing on Australia’s renowned sandbelt courses, demonstrating the authentic appeal of these prestigious venues.
