The Palmerston North Golf Club (PNGC) was established in the 1930s and was relocated to its current site during 1960s. The club is located within the city boundaries and sits in the north-east corner of the city.

An exciting new opportunity has arisen to join the PNGC as General Manager.  Join our team and play a pivotal role in shaping the success and reputation of our esteemed Golf Club. 

About the role

The role of General Manager oversees the day-to-day operations and supports the development of the Club.  You will lead the team, including our Course Superintendent and team, ProShop team, Club Functions/Bar Manager and Administration Officer, and work with sponsors, members, and volunteers to grow our Club and support the delivery of exceptional member and guest experience.  This role requires strong organisational abilities, effective communication, and a proactive approach to managing all aspects of the club’s facilities and services.

About you

We seek someone with the proven leadership skills, an understanding of golf club (or similar) operations and a passion to drive a continuous improvement culture.  You will have the following qualifications, skills, and experience. 

  • Proven track record of at least 5 years, in golf club management or a related field.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Commercial acumen and experience in delivery of operational and business plans
  • Proficiency in financial management and budgeting.
  • Skills in reporting writing with the ability to work effectively with a member led Board of governance.
  • Customer-focused mindset with a dedication to delivering exceptional experiences for members, corporate and other customers.
  • Qualification in Business Administration, Hospitality Management, Sports Management, or a related field (or equivalent experience) is desired, but not essential.
  • Experience in managing sponsor relationships and fundraising is desired, but not essential.
  • Knowledge of golf industry trends and best practices is desired, but not essential.
  • A Liquor Control Qualification (or a willingness to work towards this qualification).
