The Eastland Helicopter Rescue Trust (EHRT) successfully raised $15,260 at its 19th annual Craigs Investment Partners Charity Golf Tournament, held last Friday at Poverty Bay Golf Club’s Awapuni Links course.
Despite challenging weather conditions with heavy morning downpours, 144 players across 36 teams participated in the event. Team Ben Humphreys emerged as the overall winners with a net score of 56.75, while Team Richard Foon claimed first place in the mixed team category.
The fundraising total was achieved through multiple revenue streams, including:
- $6,400 from on-course raffles, steak sandwich sales, and green fees
- $8,860 generated through a post-tournament auction
Tournament highlights included closest-to-the-pin competitions won by Mick Murphy and Kylie Johnson, who will be entered into a draw for prizes at the next New Zealand Golf Open.
EHRT Chairman Ian Parker emphasized the critical nature of the fundraising, noting that keeping their rescue helicopter service on 24/7 standby costs over $900,000 annually, with approximately $350,000 needing to be raised by the trust.
The rescue helicopter team logged more than 500 flying hours last year, continuing their vital community service across the region.
