The Bears Home Project Management Ltd is seeking an experienced Golf Course Superintendent to lead the development and maintenance of our new 18-hole golf course Auckland, which is currently under construction. This is a full-time role that will evolve from overseeing the construction phase to establishing a high-quality maintenance programme as the course nears completion. The Superintendent will play a key role in shaping the course’s future, ensuring it meets top industry standards and provides an outstanding golfing experience.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Assist in the final stages of golf course construction, working closely with project managers and contractors to ensure quality standards are met.
  • Develop and implement a phased turf management plan that transitions from grow-in to full maintenance.
  • Recruit, train, and manage a team of grounds staff as the course nears completion.
  • Oversee the establishment of turf, landscaping, and irrigation systems to ensure long-term sustainability.
  • Monitor and maintain all playing surfaces, ensuring they meet professional golf standards.
  • Develop and manage the golf course maintenance budget, ensuring cost-effective operations.
  • Work collaboratively with the management team to plan and execute course enhancements and future improvements.
  • Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and environmental regulations, especially during construction and early operations.
  • Provide regular reports to senior management on course progress, challenges, and operational strategies.

What We’re Looking For

  • Degree or diploma in Turfgrass Management, Golf Course Management, or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in golf course maintenance, preferably with experience in new course development or major renovations.
  • Strong knowledge of turf establishment, agronomy, irrigation systems, and golf course construction processes.
  • Experience managing a groundskeeping team, including hiring and training staff.
  • Ability to adapt to changing conditions and challenges during the course’s construction and early operational phases.
  • Strong leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Experience with budget management and resource allocation.
