The Rotorua Golf Club (also known as Arikikapakapa) is one of the only geothermal golf clubs in the world and currently has over 450 members. The club has ambitions to become a premier golf club in the Bay of Plenty Region and the Golf Operations Manager will play a key role in driving it towards this goal. This is a newly created senior management role that is ideally suited to a golf professional who is looking to work within a club structure to drive positive outcomes.

Job Description: Golf Operations Manager
Location: Rotorua Golf Club, Rotorua, New Zealand
Position: Full-time, 40 hours per week.
Hours: The Rotorua Golf Club is seven day a week organisation and hours will be scheduled according to a roster.
Reports: General Manager
Direct Reports: Golf Operations Assistant/s, Casual Staff.
Key Relationships: Staff, Golf Committees, Members, Guests, Event Organisers
Purpose of the Role
To be the lead of the golf shop and golf operations for the Rotorua Golf Club that:
- Provides a positive experience to all members and guests visiting the club and pro shop.
- Act as the face of the Rotorua Golf Club for all golfers.
- Oversees golf shop operations including staff management, supplier contracts, sales, green fees, new memberships and equipment management and maintenance.
- Lead Golf Operations to ensure competitions and events are delivered successfully.
- Lead Coaching initiatives to retain members, attract new ones and inspire the next generation.
Key Responsibilities
Customer Service
- Engage with members and guests to provide a positive experience.
- Sell merchandise and equipment.
- Handle queries, tee bookings, scorecard processing, and green fee collection.
- Sign up new members.
- Communicate golf-related updates to members/guests.
Retail and Merchandising
- Monitor and manage stock levels including entering new stock into the POS system.
- Conduct regular stock takes.
- Ensure the shop is presentable with appealing displays and clean surroundings.
- Be a main contact and hold strong relationships with suppliers.
Event and Competition Management
- Administer club competitions in liaison with respective golf committees/organisers.
- Administer Business House and Twilight events in liaison with organisers.
- Use Dot Golf or other software to set up and manage competitions, events, tee sheets, results and registrations.
- Organise and administer golf events/tournaments as and when required.
Operational Management
- Manage cart fleet to ensure they are all operational including undertaking their annual service.
- Be a main contact between the club and the cart supplier.
- Manage the till, including opening and cashing up.
- Become the Dot Golf guru within the club.
- Ensure golf shop and golf operation systems are operating efficiently.
Golf Services
- Drive and provide coaching initiatives to attract new members and retain existing ones. This includes offering coaching services to members/guests.
- Conduct club fittings and equipment repairs.
- Marshal the course to ensure a smooth golfing experience.
- Deliver junior coaching initiatives.
Administration and Leadership
- Provide reports and budgets as requested by the General Manager.
- Attend staff and operations meetings.
- Support the Golf Committees with planning and execution.
- Carry out tasks as directed by General Manager
- Ensure Health and Safety compliance for the golf shop and golf operation departments.
Marketing
- Develop and execute marketing strategies to promote the club and its offerings – coaching, retail, tournaments/competitions.
Knowledge and Skills Required
- Strong understanding of golf rules and regulations.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- At least five years’ of relevant experience in the golf industry.
- Proficiency with POS systems and golf management software (e.g., Dot Golf).
- Ability to organise and manage events effectively.
- Strong administrative and organisational skills.
- Strong people skills.
- Coaching experience and qualification required.
Remuneration
Salary $70,000 – $90,000 depending on experience.
