The Upper Clutha Children’s Medical Trust received an unexpected windfall of $45,000 from the recent Hirepool Charity Classic Trilogy 2025 golf tournament at Wānaka Golf Club on March 14-16.

“We’re blown away,” said Dave Evans, chair of the Trust. “It’s an unbelievable result and we are indebted to the tournament committee for selecting us as this year’s charity. The support will help many families with costs associated with their children’s health needs.”

The three-day event featured 58 teams (232 players) competing in different formats each day. Fundraising activities included auctions, raffles, and other initiatives that contributed to the substantial donation.

Tournament organizer Marc Simmonds expressed satisfaction with the event’s success, noting that the Trust did a “fantastic job” and that he was pleased to support their cause.

The Upper Clutha Children’s Medical Trust provides financial assistance to families for children’s medical, physical, psychological, and developmental treatments based on recommendations from health or education professionals.

Since its inception in 2004, the annual charity tournament has raised over $500,000 for community organizations, including previous beneficiaries Food for Love, M!NT Charitable Trust, Upper Clutha Hospice Trust, and the Wānaka Fire Brigade’s Road Crash Rescue team.
