Miramar Golf Club is set to undergo a $16.2 million transformation, highlighted by a cutting-edge 36-bay driving range, with completion anticipated by mid-2026. The plan received overwhelming approval from members.

Club president and chairperson Evan Bayly announced that 89% of members supported the proposal during a special general meeting, with 255 votes in favor and 33 against.

The redevelopment will feature a modern two-level driving range as its centerpiece, alongside a new nine-hole par-three course, an 18-hole mini-golf course, and an updated club lounge. These additions will complement the remaining nine-hole course.

Construction will commence early in the new year with the demolition of the existing clubhouse, as the club prepares to transfer its back nine to Wellington International Airport starting January 1.

In 2019, the airport acquired approximately 13 hectares of land at the southern end for $31 million, effectively reducing Miramar from an 18-hole course to a smaller facility. The land is now being developed into a temporary car park, with completion expected in May.

Club president Evan Bayly highlighted the positive partnership with the airport, which has agreed to provide free overflow parking for visitors to the new facility when the Miramar car park is full.

The decision followed an extensive 18-month review process, during which various options were considered, and efforts were made to address concerns from members hesitant about the changes.
