The Shandon Golf Club is set in beautiful park like surroundings on the banks of the Hutt River in Petone, Wellington. The course and its greens are highly regarded across the Wellington region, and it has been the home of Wellington Golf Champions for a decade. Shandon has a membership base of around 800 golfers and oversees in excess of 45,000 rounds of golf a year.
We invite applications for the role of General Manager; a hands-on, strategic leader, who is passionate about golf and who wants to apply their leadership, management and industry knowledge to deliver positive golfing experiences for our members, and visitors.
The General Manager role is a critical one, responsible for all of the Club’s operations and leading a team of 8 employees. Candidates will need to demonstrate proven success in leading a high performing team and have a broad range of operational skills applicable to a golf club environment, including financial acumen and stakeholder engagement.
The successful applicant will be accountable for the delivery of Club’s strategic plan and will have a key role in developing initiatives that grow our Club membership. They will:
- thrive on variety; this is a busy role, requiring excellent organisation skills
- stimulate progress and be able to plan their way to, and influence the achievement of, results
- enjoy identifying and implementing operational and business improvement, and reporting
- value communication and marketing as key tools to support our membership and grow our reputation
- be a people person who gets a kick out of providing excellent customer service
- take pleasure from developing staff and a positive workplace culture
- enjoy the business side of club life as much as hospitality and event management
- be environmentally minded, recognising mother nature is central to our value proposition, and
- appreciate, and strive to provide, great golfing experiences
Ideally candidates will have recent experience leading a golf club or a sports membership organisation. Knowledge of the golf industry will be beneficial. We offer flexible hours of work across the week which will include weekend work from time to time.
Ready to lead our organisation and make a difference? Apply now. Applications close on 21 September 2024.
