On Friday March 28, the Rotary Club of Whangaparāoa held its annual charity golf tournament at the Whangaparāoa Golf Club.

The event raised more than $10,000 which will be distributed to Hibiscus Coast based charities North Shore Riding for the Disabled (RDA), Love Soup Hibiscus Coast and Bellyful.

Local RDA vice-chair Tim Lofts says that the funding will allow them to advance a water filtration system for their arena and facilities at Silverdale while Love Soup and Bellyful will use the funding to continue their support for struggling families.

The principal sponsor for the Tournament was Maygrove Retirement Village alongside contributions of funding, goods and services from a wide range of local businesses. The Chenery Memorial Trust also made a significant contribution.

Eighteen teams of four players hit off at midday, under fine but windy conditions, under Ambrose rules, which allow for a wide range of golfing abilities and the use of handicaps to determine the winner.

A team sponsored by Westpac was the winner.

Rotary club president Dan Healey said they were very pleased with the outcome.

“This is our biggest annual fundraising event, and it has distributed over $150,000 to local causes over the last 20 years. We are hugely grateful to the players, businesses and club members who make it possible.”
