Canterbury Golf has appointed Rodney Downes to its Golf Operations and Support role, bolstering the organisation’s capacity to deliver competitions and events across the district.
Downes arrives with two decades of professional experience in logistics and operational coordination, a background that Canterbury Golf believes makes him ideally suited to the demands of the position. His career has centred on keeping complex operations running smoothly — managing schedules, maintaining records, coordinating teams, and ensuring clear communication between all parties involved.
In his most recent position as a Logistics Manager, Downes served as the central point of contact between operational teams and customers, troubleshooting disruptions and keeping workflows on track. It is a skillset Canterbury Golf sees as directly applicable to coordinating interclub competitions, managing the district calendar, and ensuring events are delivered without a hitch.
What sets Downes apart, however, is that his expertise does not stop at the professional level. A six-year stint in golf governance — including a board role at Kaiapoi Golf Club and representation on the North Canterbury committee — has given him an intimate understanding of the Canterbury club scene from the inside.
Having managed several of Kaiapoi’s interclub teams, Downes is well acquainted with the structures, processes, and relationships that underpin competitive golf in the region.
Canterbury Golf says it is delighted to have someone of Downes’ experience on board, and expects his dual background in operations and governance to prove a significant asset as the organisation works to support clubs and competition across Canterbury.
