Takapuna Golf Course NZ Golf Business

In its ongoing battle with Auckland Council to keep its 18 hole course open, Takapuna Golf Course has called for a public meeting on the evening of Wednesday, 7 May.

The club sent out a newsletter on Monday 28th April, calling for players and supporters to come to the meeting to show the decision-makers in local and central government how important Takapuna Golf Course is to the community.

The meeting has been organised by a group of concerned locals and invites have been sent to the Auckland Mayor, local councillors and MPs, members of the Kaipatiki Local Board and the media.

The club noted that this meeting will be an opportunity for supporters and players to:

  • Ask questions or speak in support of the golf course
  • Review Auckland Council’s proposal to replace the golf course with wetland
  • Hear the Takapuna Golf Course team present an alternative proposal to retain the golf course and increase stormwater capacity

The Takapuna Golf Course team recently presented their flood mitigation plan to Auckland Council’s Transport, Resilience and Infrastructure Committee, advocating for a solution that preserves the entire 18-hole course.

According to David Haines, Director – Planning at CivilPlan Consultants Limited, the presentation was positively received. The course provided an update to visitors and players of the golf course yesterday via email.

The golf course’s petition to save the course, which has seen thousands sign it to help the cause, currently has more than 8,000 signatures.
